The History of Sonic Style
Sonic Style would have never been created if it weren't for my former addiction of posting on the IGN boards. Back oh I'd say around the end of the summer in 2004, a group of users that I use to post with started to create comics out of still frames from various anime shows, about each other. After reading a few of these comics, I wanted in on the action. At first, I tried my hands at capturing images from my DVDs, but soon found out that it wouldn't work because of the copyright protection on it. >_< ! Never one to back down from a project, I scavenge the net for something to create my comics with. That's when I first stumbled upon Sonic sprite comics. Most of the comics were not funny, but I did manage to find a few gems out there. After reading them, I decided to take a chance and use Sonic sprites for my comic, and got a big response about comic on the particular board I posted it on, after that I was hooked!
Sonic Style itself was first created on August 25, 2004. To make the comic stand out from all the other sprite comics I've read thus far, I decided that the layout for the comic needed to be spiced up, and that's when the GameBoy layout was born.
For those who are wondering, yes I did have some help along the way. Both Cloud and Mewantcarandjob helped out when it came to creating the comic scripts and telling me how the layouts look. Otherwise, the rest was up to me, since those two didn't know much about Sonic at the time, nor have access to programs used to building websites. ^_^!
As the site grew, we went through two different free hosts, both bravenet and GeoCities. Bravenet was scrapped due to the constant ads being displayed everywhere on the site, including pop-ups. So at the beginning of October we switched to GeoCities, and displayed a new layout for our grand move. This, however only lasted for three months before GeoCities free sites could no longer support the growing community of Sonic Style, and kept running out of bandwidth. By November 26th, 2004 Sonic Style made the huge leap, and bought enough space on the net so that it wouldn't exceed its bandwidth.
Ever since then Sonic Style has been a very successful sprite comic and has evolved toward the media side of the community, by providing a single roof where users can find music, guides, games, and images from the latest Sonic games.
