Knuckles is always quick to judge, and can be conned into doing almost anything when it comes to smooth talkers. If that wasn't bad enough, Knuckles can be quite full of himself and very stubborn about situations when he doesn't understand the full picture. His hobbies include treasure hunting, cooking, and playing hooky from his duties to the Master Emerald.

Even though his traits make him the worst possible candidate to protect the Master Emerald, when it comes right down to it, it was the Master Emerald who picked him in the end. Deep down Knuckles is a decent guy, whose mission is to protect his precious jewels.

Usually the loner of the group, Shadow tends to put down anyone who happens to have a conversation with him. Sonic's theory is that this has to do with being in a stagnant state for over 50 years, but the others know that Shadow is just full of himself. When it comes to the chaos emeralds, Shadow is quite creative with their powers. The only one who a poses a challenge to him with the chaos emeralds is Sonic, however Shadow will only fight if someone gets in his way of fulfilling Maria's wishes. Having a blurry memory of what has happened to him in the past, Maria's wishes seem to grow and change from time to time. Since the success of his first solo game, Shadow has decided to take it easy and shy away from SEGA's limelight for the moment. This doesn't mean that Shadow is just going to sit on the couch and watch TV all day. Shadow already has his hands full with trying to lead both Tails and Knuckles after Sonic's recent incident.
