Tails spots a huge sign alongside the road they are currently traveling on, It is a recruiting advertisement for the World Grand Prix. 'Sonic! Sonic! Look, there's going to be a huge race with all the best racers in world. What a great opportunity for you to show your speed and compete with the other great runners!'

Sonic thinks for a moment. He's the world’s fastest runner, but participating in races is not really his interest. Something on the sign, however, catches Sonic’s eye. Dr. Robotnik, Sonic's archenemy is participating in the race. Sonic races off into the distance. 'Wait Sonic! Wait for me!' Tails shouts to his friend.

Miles above the sign, a spy satellite focuses on Sonic and Tails. Dr. Robotnik snickers in delight. 'Now that you have fallen into my trap Sonic, I will finally have the Chaos Emeralds, and beat you at the same time. With my new hover machine, and these...'. Dr. Robotnik looks to his left, and a row of gleaming eyes gaze back at him. 'Nothing can go wrong! Hahahahahahaha......' Little does Sonic know that Dr. Robotnik has learned of the location of the Chaos Emeralds.

But Sonic is not the only one who will be will be racing with Dr. Robotnik. Sonic's rival, Knuckles, has learned that Sonic will be participating in a very important race. Knuckles never turn down a chance to be around Sonic when the action starts.

And Amy will be there too. After secretly overhearing Dr. Robotnik's plans, she also will be racing to find the Chaos Emeralds.

In Sonic R, you get the chance to be one of the four Sonic characters in a four course 3D race. Race quickly, but remember to look for items which will help you along your way. And don't forget to find those Chaos Emeralds!"


Clear Pause
Pause the game at any time and press the X button, the Y button, and the Z button simultaneously. Now you will have a clear screen, while still paused.

Skip Credits
If you don’t want to sit through the credits just hold down the A button, the B button, and the C button and then press the start button.

Same character VS mode
If you want to be the same character that your friend already chose, just hold down the X button, the Y button and the Z button while you choose the character.

Same character VS mode (PC VERSION)
So you want to play the same character as your buddy, because you think he’s cheating over there, eh? Well you can by holding down the Change View button and then press the Action button. Now all you all can play as Super Sonic.


Play with the "R"
At the title screen use the D pad to move the "R" around and the A button, the B button, the X button, and the Y button to change the color of the "R."

Play with the "R" (PC VERSION)
Use the directional controls to change the position, and the change view button to change the color of the "R."

Shrink/Enlarge objects (Saturn VERSION)
When in a menu press either the X button or the Y button to shrink or enlarge the spinning item 3D object.

Instant Demo (PC VERSION)
If you wish to skip the opening and head straight for the demo press the Action and Accelerate buttons at the same time.

Zoom (PC VERSION)
To take a closer or further back look at the tracks in the course selection menu, press Up and Down to zoom in and out.

Unlock Puppet Tails
Collect all 5 Sonic Tokens on Radical City and finish in the top 3, you then must beat him in the challenge race.

Unlock Cyber Knuckles
Collect all 5 Sonic Tokens on Reactive Factory and finish in the top 3, you then must beat him in the challenge race.

Unlock Egg Robo
Collect all 5 Sonic Tokens on Regal Ruins and finish in the top 3, you then must beat him in the challenge race.

Unlock Metal Sonic
Collect all 5 Sonic Tokens on Resort Island and finish in the top 3, you then must beat him in the challenge race.

Unlock Super Sonic
Collect all 7 Chaos Emeralds to unlock Super Sonic. Then press Up on Sonic at the character select screen to select him.

Unlock Dr. Robotnik
Place first in the other four courses.

Bonus Course
Place first in the Radiant Emerald Course.
