Anarchy on the High Seas
Let the arson begin! (Nintendo DS)
That's right; after two weeks of rumors and suspicion SEGA has announced another new title for this year, Sonic Rush Adventure, which will be released during the third quarter (autumn).
Being the forerunner to its predecessor, Sonic Rush, the game must now face off and rise from the shadow of Sonic Rush or succumb to the fate of all poorly made sequels.
Don't count Sonic Rush Adventure out just yet. This game has a few tricks of its own.
A New Tale with a Twist
It looks like our friend Sonic still has the taste of adventure in his mouth, but this time for the seven seas. Developed by SEGA Studios, Sonic Rush Adventure places Sonic in a high-speed 2D classic adventure in search of pirate treasure. The Johnny Depp-less adventure has our hero running up nearly vertical curves, through mind-bending loops, and frantic dives. Gamers will begin their adventure at Windmill Village and sail through seven diverse levels. Unlike Sonic Rush, Sonic Rush Adventure will allow players to compete in races and mission-based battles wirelessly, via Wi-Fi and DS Download Play.
Pyro Mode
In story mode, players must guide Sonic through each action-packed stage collecting rings, battling pirates, performing tricks, conducting ship-of-the-line battles, and setting ships ablaze while gathering valuable materials that Sonic and Tails use to track down the reengage pirates.
However, this adventure will not all be on foot. Players will also need to learn how to control a fleet of five vessels including a submarine, a water bike, and a hovercraft with the Nintendo DS's touch screen. At the end of each level Sonic will not be challenge by Eggman, but by the notorious Captain Whisker in a 3D epic battle spanning across both screens.
Level Layouts and Strange Villains
Before you go thinking that this game will be nothing but sea battles, think again! Gamers will be able to run, fly, swing, ride, grind, and bounce their way through luscious forests, menacing ghost ships, snowy mountain tops, pirate villages and huge underwater caverns.
Whilst fisticuffing with the usual robots and understandably skeleton warriors, SEGA has also decided to throw in a dinosaur or two like the pterodactyl, and to confuse the hell out of us a robotic triceratops.
Here's hoping to some solid game play and a good storyline.
